Weddings in Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka, with its paradise tropical island setting, is a perfect location for your dream wedding. The exotic flowers, beach and inland locations make a memorable backdrop for your special day, weather you are a large family party or just a few friends.
The local traditions mingled with your own, the beautifully decorated Poruwa, the Kandiyan dancers and drummers or even an elephant ride arrival, make Sri Lanka one of the most spectacular places to hold your ceremony.
Fireworks, outside dining and local musicians all add to the wow factor of your day of a lifetime.
Reliable photographers and video makers are on hand, hairdressers and makeup are easy to arrange. Flowers arrangements and bouquets out of seasonal flowers are all made locally. Even you’re Wedding Dress or Saree can be sourced here.
Catering can be done international or Sri Lankan Buffet style.

Below are a list of the documents and conditions you will have to have, to qualify to marry in Sri Lanka.

Legal Requirements
Weddings can be conducted from Monday to Saturday excluding bank holidays. The couple must be 18 years or over. There is a minimum residency of 5 days. Parental consent is required if under 21. The following documentation is required 12 weeks in advance:

  1. Birth certificate
  2. Valid 10-year passport
  3. If single, an affidavit confirming marital status from solicitor
  4. If divorced, a decree absolute with court stamp of the previous marriage and an affidavit to declare marital status stamped by a notary
  5. If widowed, death certificate of former spouse and marriage certificate
  6. If adopted, an adoption certificate
  7. If name changed by Deed Poll, legal proof stamped and signed by a solicitor
  8. A document with full names and address of bride, groom and both sets of parents
  9. A document with the details of the bride and groom’s professions and that of their fathers
